Willson Contrerras was born in Puerto Cabello, Carabobo, Venezuela. At the age of 16 he began attending a baseball academy run by Chicago's North Side team. After moving up through the organization's farm system, he made his big league debut on June 17, 2016. A two-time all star, he helped propel the team to a world championship in his rookie year. During the 2022 offseason, he joined St. Louis.
