Pete Alonso was born in the shadow of New York's American League. A native of Tampa, he grew up just a few miles from that clubs spring training facility. He wound up playing for the city's National League team, making his big league debut on Opening Day, 2019. Nicknamed "Polar Bear," he was an All-Star, Rookie of the Year, All-MLB First Team, and led the league in HRs all in his first season.
