In 1986, New York (NYM) finished with an astonishing record of 108–54. They are only one of three teams to win twice as many games as they lost. They won the championship and are considered to be one of the greatest teams ever. 

Their 1984 Cinderella season was caught short in the League Championship Series, but in 1985, Kansas City finished 91–71 and won the championship. They are considered to be one of the greatest teams ever.

Baseball came to Venezuela in the early 1900s via oil company workers from the United States. The sport gained greater popularity in the 1940s after Venezuela defeated Cuba on the 1941 World Cup. 

As is the case in many Caribbean nations, baseball is the most popular sport in the Dominican Republic. The sport was introduced there in the late 1800s. In 2013, the country won world championship.
