X-2 Skycycle - Evel Knievel

On September 8, 1974, Evel Knievel jumped the Snake River Canyon in Twin Falls, Idaho, not on a traditional motorcycle, but on this specially designed, steam-powered rocket called the X-2 Skycycle.  The cycle's parachute deployed too early and thought the X-2 cleared the canyon crosswinds blew the rocket back to the launch side, causing it to crash at the bottom of the canyon. Fun fact: In order to obtain permission from the State of Idaho to perform the canyon jump, the X-2 was registered as an airplane rather than a motorcycle.
