The Houston Dynamos were formerly the first Major League Soccer (MLS) incarnation of the San Jose Earthquakes. However, at the behest of soccer fans in Northern California, the Earthquakes' name, colors, and history stayed in San Jose. Houston, then, started as an expansion team in MLS in 2006.
